Hands-On Confirmed Delay

As I revealed soon after the Brisbane Hands-On Wood Show, the Melbourne, Sydney (and 2010 Brisbane) dates are being moved.  At this stage the Hands-On website provides dates “TBC” (To Be Confirmed).

Not sure how this is going to play out unfortunately (and from a purely personal perspective, I am hoping that at least the Melbourne show does happen, as I was going to be setting up a Stu’s Shed stand at that show, demonstrating a whole variety of tools and techniques.  That was definitely including a Torque Workcentre – I had a small one arranged to show just how versatile even a 1.5m version with a 600mm arm could manage (a LOT!), and quite likely some other tools such as the Festool Domino, some of the Incra and Woodpeckers gear and anything else that I have found interesting and a real asset in my workshop that I wanted to share).

It may still happen, just no idea when at this stage.

The Rumour on the Street

is the Melbourne and Sydney Hands-On woodshows are having their dates shifted right, by an as-yet unannounced amount.

Get Your Hands-On!

So it has finally arrived – the first of the new Hands-On Wood Shows, Brisbane this weekend (Friday to Sunday).  Sad I can’t be there – hope you all have a blast!  Some things to keep an eye out for: Addictive Pens – I really like their circuit-board blanks, and the snake-skin ones (still haven’t had a chance to turn the ones I got from the Melbourne show – had other priorities).  Torque Workcentre – have a good look at what this machine can do (and that is a lot more than just a bit of surfacing) and why I’m looking forward to having one in my workshop. Kreg – I’m interested in seeing all the new product range that will become available through a new venture.  There are heaps more too.  Carrolls, Carbatec, Carbitool, Magswitch, Tormek etc etc Have a look at the Exhibitor List (pdf) – looks an impressive collection.

So have a great show!

Brisbane Hands On Show

Just had a brief email from the organisers – discussions about the Melbourne (and Sydney?) shows, but just thought I’d pass on one comment from the email:

Brisbane is full to the rafters! – there isn’t a square metre of the venue that isn’t occupied by a tool, machine or burl – exciting times………..
The woodies are going to love it

So I’m jealous of those of you who are going to get to this inaugural event – you know what I think of wood shows in general, and this sounds like it will be a great event.  If you get to go and get some photos, send a few classics down (only if you are happy with me putting them on Stu’s Shed – include some text in the email giving me permission to reproduce your photos).  I’m really interested in seeing what it looks like, and how it differs from the Timber & Working with Wood shows.
