Sheds

Got a flyer in the letterbox today for a Men’s Shed that is about to start in Carrum Downs. They are going to have woodworking, and photography (among other subjects). Sounds perfect for me (given they are asking for help), but unfortunately the only people catered for are either retired or unemployed, as they are looking to run it in the middle of a working day. Bit of a shame really.

Their catch cry is “every man needs a shed”, and although the working force are more likely to be able to afford their own, they are no more likely to have the shed-focused social circles, or potentially the time to actually set up a shed of their own.

I’d be interested in offering some time (given I’ve taught both woodworking & photography in the past) but I’d have to loose a day’s leave each time I did.

Spot on. Those of us who slave also need shedtime and teh companionship of fellow sheddies.

I suspect that the ‘hours’ reflect the interests and availability of the leading spirits of the particular shed. If you were to offer yourself as the ‘evening and weekend convenor’ I have no doubt that they would say – “go for it Stu”.
